Allama Iqbal Day Celebrated at GDC Doda | KNO

In order to pay tribute to one of the greatest poets and philosophers on his birth anniversary, Govt Degree College Doda celebrated Iqbal Day with full zeal and enthusiasm . The main function of the day was held in the seminar hall of the college in which more than three hundred students participated. Principal of the college Dr Shafqat Hussain Rafiqi was the Chief Guest on the occasion where as all faculty members attended the function . The programme started with the recitation of Tarana-e-Hind Saare Jahan se Acha Hindustan hamara which has been written by Dr Iqbal. A quiz competition was organised by the department of Urdu under the guidance of Dr Akhtar Hussain HoD Urdu. Jagan Nath Azad Team won the first prize whereas Allama Iqbal Team and Ishrat Kashmiri Team won the second and third prize respectively. After the quiz programme Dr Jamsheed Ahmad (Assistant Professor English), Prof Zain Ul Abidin (Assistant Professor Political Science) and Dr Imtiyaz Ahmed (Assistant Professor Urdu) threw light on the life and contributions of Allama Iqbal. They enlightened the audience with the concept propounded by Iqbal like 'Self', 'Mysticism', 'National Integration', 'Communal Harmony', 'Universal Brotherhood' and 'Scientific Insight'. The speakers stressed upon national unity and patriotism as explained by Dr Iqbal in his Persian and urdu poetry. In his presidential address Dr Shafqat Hussain Rafiqi emphasized that the central theme of Iqbal's poetry is 'Khudi'. 'Khudi' consists of the attributes like self realization, the spirit of independence and sense of honour. He further added that the main objectives of the concept of 'Khudi' are spiritual adornment and elevation rather than material aggrandizement. He impressed upon the students to become the Shaheen of Iqbal's poetry by inculcating lofty ideals of life. The principal appreciated the efforts put in by the department of Urdu in particular and all the faculty members in general. The programme ended with a prize distribution ceremony in which the principal distributed mementos among the students. The vote of thanks was given by Dr Imtiyaz Ahmed.
